Shopping the Net for Your Dog
The internet is a marvelous resource when looking for products for your pet. But, in order to get the best deals, you need to have a strategy of assault. My own method involves two essential steps: product research and retailer research.
The first step when purchasing anything on the internet (or anywhere else, for that matter), should be to investigate the type of product that you want to buy. I commence by looking at some comparison shopping sites. This allows me to narrow my search down to a few top products very speedily. For dog products, there are many places you can look for information. Always look for trusted sources. The American Kennel Club’s website is a good starting point for information on your pet’s needs. Next, consider looking at dog owners’ community websites. Find out what other people like you prefer. For instance, I found that many people are switching to grain free dog food because it’s closer to a dog’s natural diet. Once you’ve narrowed products down to a few brands, look more closely at those specifically. Check out their websites, but don’t trust everything you read there. Find objective sources, including consumer reviews, to find out the true story. For instance, Iams’ website obviously informs you of all the great things about Iams dog food , but they don’t tell you that PETA is constantly on their backs about animal cruelty violations.
Once you’ve chosen your product, it’s time to choose a retailer. And you’ll need to take more things into consideration than just the retail price. How much is shipping? For instance, if you purchase a pricey pet bed, like one of these, the shipping could get expensive if you pay by weight. Don’t forget to add this into the retail price. Also, some online retailers will give you a deal on shipping if you spend a certain amount of money. It might be worth buying two items from the same store, even if one is slightly less expensive at another retailer, to get this deal. You should also factor in how long something will take to ship to you. Can you afford to wait?
If you think about all these factors, you should be able to buy items for your dog less expensively on the web than you can at a brick-and-mortar store.
