Affenspinscher, the Monkey Dog
A small dog breed that was developed during the 17th century in Germany has captured the attention of dog lovers because of its monkey-like expression. This little terrier type dogs was in fact dubbed as Monkey Dog . French breed enthusiasts calls the dog Diablotin Moustachu, a name that means mustached little devil. This dog was primarily developed to be a rodent catcher. During the early years of the breed’s existence, these dogs are commonly seen in barns, in stables, granaries and in kitchens keeping these places free of rodents.
A high level of intelligence, an affectionate nature and the renowned clownish personality are the admirable qualities of an Affenpinscher. If your choice for a pet is a dog that will provide the family with comic relief, then the Affenpinscher is the dog for you. This breed is really amusing as it has this attitude of showing off to get people’s attention every chance it could get. Therefore it is not surprising for this barn occupant to gain access not only to the homes but also to the laps of its adoring owners. An Affenpinscher though has a cunning side. The dog would know how and when to appeal to the owner’ weakness. The dog is small in size but big in personality as it can easily compel the family to give in to its wishes. This dog is highly valued as a family companion because of its admirable qualities but owners must never forget that the dog can be overbearing if allowed. It would never be wise to spoil this pet as the dog can become a small tyrant. An Affenpinscher that cannot have its way will be in a huff all day. The feisty dog will not tolerate teasing especially from unfamiliar faces. The tough personality that earned this dog the “mustached little devil” name can be corrected with consistent firm training and lots of loving care.
An Affenpinscher is recognized as one of toy breeds. Apartment dwellers wanting to have a pet can consider an Affenpinscher as one of the suitable choices. Unlike other toy breeds, an Affenpinscher’s exercise requirement is rather high. The dog should be given an opportunity to exercise daily. Bear in mind, in spite of the size, the dog is very active. An Affenpinscher, apart from being cuddly is also an affectionate pet thus it is not surprising for an owner to carry and cuddle the dog constantly. A bored and inactive Affenpinscher will become a horrible destructive pet. With the right training and care, the Affenpinscher will be a pet any owner would love to have.
